One of the outfits that will surely be a huge hit this year is the Loki costume. It is undeniable that a lot of people are not familiar with this villainous character. I for one know that he's a cartoon figure and is now hitting the big screen but I wasn't quite sure what he looked like until now.

Well, once I got a look at Loki himself I couldn't resist looking up his costumes. I was pleasantly surprised at the various Loki costumes available. There are actually two looks that you might want to choose from when thinking about going for a Loki costume.

Loki, in old Nordic tales, is generally thought of as villain. He is a shape shifter, a trickster and during a few episodes, is actually a great help to the other gods. However, everything turned bad when he orchestrated the demise of one of the gods. It is pretty difficult to explain everything else after that but his clothing is definitely an easier topic.

The Loki costume, if based on the old Scandinavian tales, is very much like the usual clothing that Vikings wear. Usually, there is a tunic worn under all sorts of metal or wooden armor. Besides the chest plate, they would have leather arm and leg guards. Fur lined boots are more appropriate in this area compared to the sandals worn by Greek and Roman gods, although you might see some costume sets have the latter at times. Since the climes in this area are harsh and cold, expect to see fur-lined capes included in the set as well.

The most important part of the Loki costume is actually the head gear. Loki's helmet has two long curved horns. This is very distinctive and will identify the character from a crowd of Vikings.

The characters here are actually the same as the ones in Norse mythology. Thor, the god of thunder, is still the hero of the plot while Loki is the antagonist. Actually, they are half-brothers and friends but have become each others nemesis as the plot thickens. There are other characters in the comic book (and the movie which will premier soon) like Odin but the whole story line is very different from the more convoluted one created by the North men centuries ago.

As this is based on a superhero story, expect that Loki is indeed wearing a jumpsuit - a green and gold one, in fact. A cape, arm guards and boot tops are often included in the set. Of course, the helmet with the curved horns will always complete the ensemble.

There is no real problem if you go for the first kind of Loki costume or the second one. If you are out there to look as genuine as the Scandinavian history and legends would ask for, then it is obviously best for you to choose the more traditional one. However, if you are more into epic flicks like the one which will be shown later this year, the second will work well for you.
